Programme Prayer News
A monthly summary of prayer requests from the 3 Langham programmes
May 2012
Literature
- South Asia Bible Commentary: Please continue to pray for the Editors of the SABC who are battling to maintain the pace of work needed because of their circumstances. In particular, please pray for the young son of one of our Editors who is seriously ill at this time. One of the theological editors writes ‘We do need to pray fervently for all the members of the SABC project as the evil one is indeed attacking the project. The SABC will affect millions of people, especially when it is translated into other languages, and so the evil one will be trying his best to bring the project down. We all need to pray, particularly as this project is coming towards its conclusion’
- Ukraine: Pray for Colloquium publishing house, a ministry which seeks to stimulate church leaders, academics and students to dig deeper into the Scriptures, through its programme of Biblical studies. Founder Alexander Bukovietski believes it is important to help Russian and Ukrainian-speaking leaders to move away from rote learning and inherited ‘fundamentalism’, towards greater interaction with scripture. But this is not an easy ministry to deliver on a commercial publishing basis, and financial support is needed.
- Estonia: Allika publishing is only 5 titles away from completing a New Testament commentary series in Estonian, the first and only one of its kind. They hope to finish in 2013 if resources permit. Pray for the impact of these titles as they are used for Bible study and preaching, and pray for resources to publish them.
Preaching
- New work: several countries have launched LP work recently, including Ethiopia, Bulgaria and an additional republic in Central Asia. Please pray that they will quickly build foundations, gain the support of leaders across the denominations, and soon establish local preachers clubs.
- Training local facilitators: as the work of LP develops in each country, small teams of trainers are being equipped to develop the work in new regions, towns and villages. Please pray for Jennifer Cuthbertson, newly appointed as the Coordinator for Trainer Development, who will be supporting these teams of local trainers as they extend their work.
- Safety: many of the country coordinating teams of LP around the world are working under considerable pressure. Several are in contexts of violence and social upheaval, and the majority are in contexts of poverty and instability. It is not unusual to receive news of the murder of Christian leaders or the loss of family members through illness. Please pray for the Lord’s protection for the coordinating teams in over 50 countries where the preaching movements are underway.
Scholars
- Give thanks for the successful Langham Scholars Cambridge Consultation, held at Ridley Hall, Cambridge University, from 17 to 20 April. This was a time of academic training, pastoral care and support, and spiritual nurture for our scholars. We are particularly thankful for the day of training in preaching skills brought by Jonathan Lamb – all the scholars present are involved in different forms of preaching ministry.
- Give thanks for Jason Tan’s successful defense of his research at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in the USA. Jason’s research dealt with the social and ethnic identity of the pastors of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in the Philippines. Jason will return to the Philippines to serve as President of the Great Commission Mission Training Center. He and his family are currently raising funds to support his work.
- Please pray for Abel Ngarsoulede (Chad) who has his oral examination for his PhD in May at Bangui Evangelical School of Theology, Central African Republic.
Thank you for your prayers!
